Activity - EU Cycling Strategy

EU Cycling Strategy

Association of Cities for Cyclist participates in the process of developing the EU Cycling Strategy which is to become the key guideline for the development of non-motorized transport across Europe. The strategy will be a result of cooperation under the auspices of the Transport, Health and Environment Pan-European Programme (THE PEP). The document should also have a positive impact on cycling and walking conditions in the Czech Republic. Executive head of the Association of Cities for Cyclists attended a meeting of national cycling coordinators in Bratislava (SK) on 20-21 January 2016, and also in Brussels (NL) on 12-13 September 2016.

The preparation process of the EU Cycling Strategy: More than 20 experts from organisations involved in the EU Cycling Strategy Campaign gathered for the 1st time on 25 November in order to develop a blueprint document for a future EU Cycling Strategy. This was the first of the four planned meetings, and was built on a considerable number of prior public events and workshops that were organized over the past 18 months. The blueprint document should help identify key policy actions at EU level and will be handed over to Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc at the Velo-city Conference 2017 in Arnhem-Nijmegen. For further details see www.cyclingstrategy.eu.

EU Cycling Strategy builds on the Luxembourg Declaration on Cycling as a climate friendly Transport Mode which was signed by the Czech Transport Minister Dan Ťok on October 20, 2015.

The Czech Association of Cities for Cyclists seconds the document under a decision of the General Assembly held in Oslavany (Moravia) on March 9, 2017.
